With 2011 upon us, I thought it would be nice to post what our 2011 collecting goals are. I will refresh this thread in 2012 to see how each of us have done.

Here are my goals for 2011:

1. T-206 Cobb Portrait or Bat off Shoulder in either SGC or PSA 4 or 5.

2. Stan Musial 1952 Redman in either SGC or PSA 7 or better.

3. 1948 Leaf or Bowman Stan Musial Autographed RC.

4. Liquidate all my non essential cards. That would include team cards, league leaders, easy to find regional issues, etc. I would like to have a very small, but very high end collection going into 2012.

So how about everyone else.

Matt ... I think liquidating the cards that you don't care too much about is a great idea.

Doran ... why don't you throw up a list of the Cardinals cards, along with the minimum grades, that you are looking for? You never who might be able to help.

Still looking for that "perfectly" centered PSA 7 Rose...been trying for 3 years. Also want to pick up a mid grade 52 Bowman Mantle.

I do need to get a list together Doug, right now I'm so far away that a list would be a very daunting task. Forgot to mention my other goal although I'm nut sure how feasible it is, I would like to buy at least 100 acres of land this year.

Like some you, I want to downsize my collection this year. I'm thinking I will keep going the way of graded vintage packs. They are easy to display and should hold their value.

Doran ... with a quote like that I know you don't live on Long Island! LOL. Around here it would cost you $200,000 - $300,000 for 1/2 an acre.

Matt are you getting the red portrait Cobb? It's one of the most visually striking cards in the set, if you can find one with a Polar Bear back the colors will really stand out front to back...I love that card!

I'm going to try to move some of my excess this year...I always plan to and never do.

Also, I want to get past 50% on my '56B Topps set; add a few more PSA 9 OPC Baseball packs; add to the Thomas collection when prices are right; add a few more Clementes (esp. a '64 Stand Ups); and in general, buy with more purpose...though I've not figured the purpose yet.

Move to where I live. Land is plentiful and cheap too.

It's not horrible around me, $8-$10,000 an acre, but if I find something an hour or more away I can get it for $1200-$1500/acre

I'm down to 5-9 cards in a bunch of sets to finish them- E91A/B/C, '33 George C Miller, '40 Playball, '41 Goudey, '49 Bowman, '50 Bowman, '63 Topps, '66 Topps, '04 Topps Cracker Jack, '06 A & G
I'd love to knock off most or all of them.
Oh, and I need 5 more square frame Ramlys. That might take a bit longer

 • Interests:Cleveland type-collector. Most recent additions were 3 Cameo Pepsin pins including a Nig Cuppy PSA 6.
Also working on a 1960 Topps set that will grade out at 7+.
My current "Holy Grail" would be a Ray Chapman card from the 1917 cards. I always seem to get outbid on these.

Posted 10 January 2011 - 05:14 AM

Same goal as last year: a 1917 Ray Chapman. I'm also working on some more graded 1960 baseball 8 and up.

On a lesser note I am trying to get a photo or card of every Cleveland Indian, last year I went over the 1000 different player mark, but there's plenty left to find.

Martin and all, Made my first purchase of 2011. Knocked off the number 1 item on my list, and most importantly have sold/liquidated all my non essentials for the most part. I would really like to have my collection at at about 50 total cards (30 of which encompass my Musial(10) and Clemente (20) Basic Sets), with the balance being comprised of hard to find Musial and HOF RC's. Here is a scan of the Cobb that I pulled the trigger on. Its not a Polar Bear back unfortunately, but I am pleased with the card, and what I purchased it for.
