I went to mail off some Ebay items, mostly autographed baseballs and a jersey. I'm waiting in line and this lady in front of me has a couple of large PO plastic boxes with bubble mailers. The clerk is taking them, weighing them and doing her thing.

The PO clerk comes across one going to Puerto Rico and tells the lady she needs to fill out Customs forms for items going out of the US.

The lady says fine, starts filling out the forms and is pawing through the second box of mailers looking for others she may have to fill out Customs forms on. After a minute she picks one out of the box, looks at the clerk and says....

"This one's going to New Mexico. Do I need to fill out a Customs form for this?"

Reminds me of the story from the '96 Olympics. Whomever was in charge of ticket sales had listed New Mexico as an international country whose citizens were subject to an international fee. It took a couple of days, but it was finally resolved when it was confirmed that New Mexico is indeed part of the Union.

Even crazier is that Puerto Rico is part of the United States and does not require customs.

So maybe the lady was mocking the US Postal worker with her New Mexico question.

You never know

Makes me wonder why one of our northern states was never named New Canada?
